Art Exhibition: 3 Fingers at arms Length by Leila McMillan
Three fingers at arm’s Length
This is how we measure the sky.
A photographic exhibition of original dance work by Leila McMillan nominated for ‘Outstanding Choreography’ from Hong Kong Dance Alliance Awards 2018, presented at Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. It takes its inspiration both from the young people who participated in the creation process and a choreographic artists first encounter with Hong Kong. Its lights and shadows its speed and texture. And of course the ever present bamboo, providing the structure for a city that is ever growing upwards and along, reaching out into space, carving an ever evolving environment.
This work was created in collaboration with the performers. References include Fipsi Seilern, Yojhi Yamamoto, Isamu Noguchi, Ignatz, ESG, Flying Low, Passing Through and the Wan Chai Wet Market (Hong Kong).
The stage work is produced by Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and created during Leila McMillan’s artist in residence and was presented as a part of the School of Dance Fall Performances.
